The Electoral Commission has declared John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential elections.
He secured 6,328,397 votes representing 56.55%, exceeding the constitutionally required 50.1% majority of votes.
His closest contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawamia placed second with 4,657,304 votes representing 41.61% of the total votes cast.
The total valid votes cast across 267 constituencies were 11,191,422 and this excludes the nine constituencies where results are still outstanding.
The EC Chair, Mrs. Jean Mensah declared the results and put the voter turnout from the 267 constituencies at 60.9%.
Following his declaration as President-elect of Ghana, his wife, Lordina Mahama and their five children clad in white apparel congratulated him with hugs and cheers of smiles.
Also present at the campaign office were top executives of the party including National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and NDC MPs including Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
President-Elect, Mr. John Dramani Mahama previously served as President of Ghana from 24th July 2012 to 7th January 2017 and as Vice President of Ghana from January 2009 to July 2012, following the death of his predecessor, John Atta Mills.
He is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who served as the Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi from 1997 to 2009.
He also served as Deputy Minister for Communication between 1997 and 1998 before becoming the substantive Minister for Communications in 1998.
Mahama is the first vice president to assume the presidency following the death of his predecessor, John Atta Mills. and is the first head of state of Ghana to have been born after Ghana’s independence in 1957.
