The Electoral Commission of Ghana has declared Former President John Mahama the NDC Presidential Race winner.
Mr. Mahama is now the NDC flag bearer-elect and will contest the 2024 Presidential Elections.
He received a massive endorsement by the delegates with an overwhelming 297,603 votes representing 98.9% of the total valid votes cast in the just-ended presidential primaries of the party held on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
The declaration means this will be the fourth time the former president will lead the party into an election.
His contender the Former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu secured 3,181 votes representing 1.1% of the total valid votes cast.
In a Facebook post, Hon. Kojo Bonsu congratulated him for his win saying
“I saw our former President H.E John Dramani Mahama and his team work so hard every day than never before to achieve this accomplishment, and I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more than him at this moment. You set an amazing example for the NDC.”
Kojo Bonsu was the only contender for Mr. John Mahama after Dr. Duffour withdrew from the party’s presidential race on the eve of the elections.
On the Parliamentary Primaries, Cape Coast South MP, George Kweku Ricketts Hagan and Cape Coast North MP, Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarku retained their seats to contest for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections on the ticket of the NDC.
