Former Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof Dora Edu- Buandoh says teenagers must strive to excel in all the subjects studied at the Junior High School.
She explains that this will help them to build a solid foundation that will help them to launch their dream careers.
Prof. Edu Buandoh opines that limiting oneself to an area of study could become a challenge if they decide to pursue different fields at the Senior High School level due to a change of mind.
“At the JHS level, I wouldn’t recommend to you that you choose any course. I wouldn’t recommend to you that you tell yourself that I am going to box myself into only Science or into only English or Maths,” she continued.
To her, teenagers at JHS should be made to understand that their future careers will not only be based on what they are interested in but also what they are good at.
Prof Dora Edu- Buandoh further advised teenagers against copying blindly the things they see on social media.
“What you see on social media is about 80 percent fake,” she indicated.
She was speaking at a symposium the Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation (CEGRAD) UCC organized to mark the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child.
The International Day of the Girl (IDG) which is observed annually on October 11 serves as a global platform to advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights.
It is also to resolve those challenges for nothing hinders the girls from becoming national assets.
