The National Democratic Congress‘s (NDC) Deputy General Secretary, Peter Boamah Otokunor, has demanded the resignation of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa, over suspected irregularities in the December 2020 general elections.
“There is an urgent need for significant changes of our democratic systems, including the removal of the Electoral Commission’s Chairperson. Jean Mensa’s credibility has eroded. She has forfeited the moral right, and the EC’s presumed sphere of impartiality has vanished,” Mr. Otokunor said.
His request comes in the wake of the NDC’s decision to skip an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting intended to enable political parties to discuss the 2020 general elections.
Mr. Otokunor told Eyewitness News that the group chose to boycott the meeting in spite of the EC’s alleged bias in the elections.

“We determined that attending such a meeting and endorsing Jean Mensa’s heinous bias during the election’s actions would be ruthless. That, we thought, would have been extremely problematic.”
The EC Chair, Jean Mensa, was also accused of irregularities in the rejected nomination petition of the NDC’s flagbearer for the 2020 elections, John Mahama.
