Iron ore has been discovered in five districts of the Oti Region. The Regional Minister, Joshua G. Makubu, made the announcement during a press conference on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
The iron was discovered in the regions of Guan, Biakoye, Jasikan, Kadjebi, and Krachi East.
“Currently we are at a stage the technical people will call it mineral resource estimation to get the actual tonnage available on the land before mining can start,” the Minister disclosed.
Joshua G. Makubu expressed optimism that the mineral’s discovery will enhance Ghana’s economy and industrialisation.

“I want to advise people in Accra to start looking for land in the Oti Region because what is going to take Ghana from our current state to a very industrialized nation has been found in the Oti Region and that is the iron ore”.
Ghana Integrated Iron Ore Development and the Geological Service Department are already working together to make future plans for the discovery and extraction of the natural resource.
The Minister also stated that private investors have begun to devote funding to the mineral’s commercialisation.
“If you want to establish a steel company, don’t be focusing too much on Tema. Come to the Oti Region”, he stressed.
The Ghana Geological Survey Authority was instrumental in the finding of vast amounts of iron ore resources. The iron ore has a weight percentage of 55.22 percent and is of higher quality.
The government is dedicated to offer value to the raw commodity, according to Oti Regional Minister Joshua G. Makubu, and would guarantee that the whole value chain is preserved in the area and country at large.
