The Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Ghana are calling for alternative fuel sources to power their plants amid the shutdown of the Ghana National Gas Limited Company’s Gas Processing Plant and offshore gas export facilities.
The shutdown, announced by Ghana Gas, is scheduled for critical safety and maintenance work to enhance the plant’s efficiency and secure a reliable gas supply in the future.
Dr. Elikplim Apetorgbor, CEO of the Independent Power Producers, Ghana, has raised concerns about the impact on power production due to the anticipated fuel shortages.
He urged the government and sector managers to provide alternative fuel sources that are optimized for maximum efficiency.
While Dr. Apetorgbor recognized the necessity of the maintenance work, he stressed the importance of effective planning and coordination to mitigate adverse effects on electricity supply during this period.
“Make available an alternative fuel supply and also this fuel that will be made available should be optimized for proper output.” He said
