The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched an inquiry into the fire that devastated parts of the Mankessim Market, burning merchandise and consumables of various qualities.
The fire, which broke out at 2238 hours and destroyed many stores, resulted in significant damage to products worth tens of thousands of cedis.
There were no injuries in this incident.
The GNFS Central Regional Public Relations Officer, Mr Abdul Wasiu Hudu, said that inquiries into the cause of the fire were still underway.

He explained that the Mankessim Fire Station was dispatched with assistance from the Cape Coast and Breman Essiem Fire Stations, but that due to ongoing development in the market and the lack of usable hydrants, there was an accessibility problem.
Around 0220 hours, the fire was eventually brought under control.
Meanwhile, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, the Regional Minister, has visited the Area to get firsthand information and to commiserate with the traders who have lost their businesses.
