Government has denounced efforts by certain individuals to undermine and discredit the AGENDA 111 initiative which hopes to transform the country’s healthcare system.
President Akufo-Addo launched the AGENDA 111 Hospital Project last month, however the project has drawn widespread condemnation from the opposition and several Ghanaians with the former alleging that, the cost of the project has been inflated.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, described the complaints leveled against the project, ranging from its cost to its implementation, as unfounded and without validity.
“This includes a claim by MP for North Dayi that the projects were illegally awarded, and the contract prices inflated…the project was legally granted in accordance with approval from the public procurement authority. In terms of costs, the cost of the district hospitals under agenda 111 is about 17m USD. This is about 50% the cost of similar projects under the previous administration which cost between $25 and $35 million” he explained. The claim therefore of inflated contracts, is therefore totally untrue and we believe politically trumped up”.

At a media briefing in Accra on Sunday, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said the allegations are deliberate political motivated claims of impropriety being cooked up against the Agenda 111 project.
The Minister therefore encouraged constructive debates about the initiative but denounced any attempt at politicizing it.
