In Ghana, inflation has fallen marginally  for the first time in 19 months.

According to data issued by the Ghana Statistical Service, inflation fell to 53.6% in January 2023, down from 54.1% in December 2022.

Since May 2021, inflation has been on the rise.

This suggests that the overall price level in January 2023 was 53.6% higher than in January 2022. Between December 2022 and January 2023, monthly inflation was 1.7%.

According to the statistics office, food inflation was 59.7% last month.

Food inflation was 2.8% month on month, while non-food inflation was 47.9% (0.563). Non-food inflation was 49.9% last month.

Month-on-month Non-food inflation was 0.8%, with locally produced commodities seeing 50.0% inflation. Imported goods were likewise subject to 62.5% inflation.

On a regional basis, the Eastern region had the highest year-on-year inflation rate of 66.2%, while Greater Accra had the lowest at 65%.
