Ghanaian dancehall and reggae musician Stonebwoy has maintained his claim that he was the recipient of the 2019 Ghana Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year award—a claim that was never formally made.
During an interview with MC Portfolio on the podcast “The Portfolio,” the two-time Artiste of the Year winner stood by his statement and declared that he would not back down from his bold claim to have won the prize in 2019.
Stonebwoy said again and again that he is the rightful winner of the coveted title, and he publicly dared anyone who disagrees to declare themselves the winner as well.
“I have boldly spoken about the three times, and I will continue to speak up until anyone doubts to speak otherwise.
“I have accepted that it is three times already, and I’m gladly rallying it around, giving a lot of credit and placing importance on the Ghana Music Awards. So, as for that one, I’m confident about it. I’m not dragging it with them.
“How deep can it get when Kwame Sefa Kayi, DJ Black, and myself are in the know? It is not about me proving it now. It’s about those who want to prove otherwise.
“If anyone thinks otherwise, they should also boldly come out and claim that they are the winners as well,” he said.

Context
Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale got into a physical brawl on stage, which caused controversy during the 2019 Ghana Music Awards.
Because of this, the highly anticipated Artiste of the Year title was withheld by the organizers. Shatta Wale and his entourage stormed the stage as Stonebwoy was ready to accept the award, which led to the incident. Stonebwoy had been named Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
The artists got into a fight as a result, and Stonebwoy pulled out a revolver.
The category remained unannounced as both performers were barred from the awards programme.
When the TGMAs came around in 2024, Stonebwoy asserted that he should have won the 2019 Artiste of the Year award.
