The Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security (IES), Nana Amoasi VII has expressed disappointment with the lack of action on the part of Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh in the ongoing frequent power outages in Ghana.
According to IES, removing the minister from office is necessary to address the issues, thereby calling for his immediate dismissal.
Speaking on Citi FM, Nana Amoasi VII, criticized Dr. Prempeh for his perceived inaction during the crisis.
He questioned the minister’s effectiveness in the role of the severe electricity supply issues.
Nana Amoasi stated, “Given the current circumstances where we are experiencing frequent power outages, what benefit does the minister offer? It might be better for him to step down and possibly explore different responsibilities.”
While expressing his frustrations as a consumer, he bemoaned saying “As someone who pays in advance for electricity, including the cost of meter installation, I expect to receive the power I paid for or at least be informed about when it will be restored. Being told to make my own arrangements is not only unhelpful but also disrespectful,”
He also pointed out the minister’s apparent detachment from the reality of the energy situation, questioning the purpose of his presence in such a crucial role.
“At this juncture, with the situation we find ourselves in, where there’s no electricity supply, what role does the minister serve? It’s time for him to step aside, perhaps to focus on other pursuits.
“He should be relieved of his duties. It’s becoming unbearable. Is it too much to ask?”
“In all honesty, as a prepaid consumer, I’ve paid for the power that should be provided to me. I’ve even paid for the meter installation, which is essentially a contractual agreement.
“If I’m not receiving the power, the least I expect is some communication about when to expect it. But to be told to create my own timetable is simply disrespectful.”
