The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), Cape Coast District Society (CCDS) has called on the urgent need for proactive measures to mitigate the potential threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI) on their jobs.
According to the Director of Finance at the University of Cape Coast, Mrs. Elizabeth Obese, as AI continues to advance rapidly, professionals in the accounting field are increasingly concerned about the implications of this technology on their roles and responsibilities.
The call was made as the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), Cape Coast District Society (CCDS) launched their 10th Anniversary at the School of Graduate Studies, UCC, on 22 June 2023.
Delivering the keynote address, the Director of Finance, UCC, Mrs. Elizabeth Obese said as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve and automate various tasks, it poses a potential threat to the traditional role of accountants in the country.
“I would say so in an era of technology where now artificial intelligence is being used to solve so many problems and if we don’t take care, we may become irrelevant,” she stressed.
Mrs. Elizabeth Obese further emphasized the need for proactive measures to mitigate the potential threat posed by artificial intelligence (AI) to the accounting profession.
To her, it is important accounting professionals try as much as possible to also engage themselves in these technologies, to avoid becoming irrelevant in their profession.
She, therefore, urged the ICAG to take immediate steps in preparing accountants to embrace and adapt to the evolving technological landscape.
