Nana Appiah Mensah, widely known as NAM 1, the embattled CEO of Menzgold, claims he would go back to the Ghana Police Service and collect the GH2.5 million handed to the police to be dispersed to Menzgold customers whom he owes.

In a radio interview broadcast on Starr FM in Accra on Wednesday morning, October 25, NAM 1 said that the police had acted dishonestly in moving the GH2.5 million to the Bank of Ghana.

NAM 1 went on to say that he had given in to the authorities’ request to set up a desk at which Menzgold representatives could distribute the funds.

“The intent was not to give money to the police to distribute. We went to the police because we wanted security. The agreement with the police was to have them provide a desk where we could distribute the money.

“I am surprised the money has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana. I will go back to the police and ask them to give the money back to me because that was not the arrangement we had,” he added.

He further stated that if the police are unable to assist in the distribution of the funds, he will establish his own security measures and give the funds to clients.

Mr. Mensah continued, saying that “the court has no responsibility to pay my customers” and that he “only contacted the police to give us security.”

On the instruction of the Attorney-General, the Police received a GH2.5 million payment from Nam 1 on Friday, October 20, 2023.

The aforementioned amount has been deposited into the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for the notice of the Court, according to a statement released by the Police administration.

NAM 1 insisted on pursuing the money, saying that this was not the arrangement.
