Ghanaian Gospel musician, Kofi Sarpong, has revealed he had no dreams of leaving the Ghana Police Service to become a full time musician.
The “Ayeyi” hitmaker indicated that he loved the Ghana Police Service so much that even if he had to work for free, he’d have no reservations against it.
Narrating his success story on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning with KMJ, he narrated how hard it was for him to do music even as a police officer.
“I declined out rightly and told him, ‘you heard my name as deputy superintendent of police. How could that be possible?’ And for me, I love the police. If I’m working and I’m not paid, it would be enough for me. I also wasn’t ready to leave the police. But he persevered” he explained.

He continued his narration of how his manager, Kwesi Ernest was persistent and unwavering in his pursuit of him to become a musician.
“He came to see me one day, and I asked him, ‘I’ve seen people holding CDs looking for producers, so why won’t you help them?’ And he told me, ‘Papa, I’ve seen you from afar. You don’t know me, but I know you, and I want the world to see what’s in you, so please give me the opportunity” he added.
Even when Kofi Sarpong was active in the Ghana Police Service, he needed the help of other musicians to help to start his career and Akwaboah Jnr was one of the few people who worked directly with him as a writer and keyboardist.
“A few hours later, I heard a knock on my door, and it was him with someone holding a piano following him, and it was Akwaboah Jnr. I asked why, and he said, ‘Papa, we are starting today’.”
His maiden album, Awurade Kasa released in 2008 had great songs like “Aseda Nkoa”, which propelled him to fame. This was the commencement of a great music career aside a prolific Police Service career.
“Mmesoma Me Kwa”, “Ayeyi Nwom”, “Mmere Pa” “Yesu Mpo”, “Ebesi Me Yie” and “Ennsuro” made appearance on his debut album that has today made him a household name in the Gospel music industry today.
