The Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare has stated emphatically that, he had nothing to do with the interdiction and DE interdiction of the three police officers in connection with the leaked audio tape.
A statement from the police on September 7 indicated that the police service had interdicted COP Mr George Alex Mensah, Supt. Mr Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, and Supt. Mr George Lysander Asare.
According to the statement, the interdiction was a necessary step to pave the way for disciplinary proceedings against the officers in line with Police Service regulations.

However, the interdiction was withdrawn by the police in a sequel statement on the same day.
“In order not to prejudice the ongoing probe [by Parliament], the Police administration has suspended their interdiction,” the second statement said.
Both press statements were signed and issued by the Director of Police Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Grace Ansah-Akrofi.
The IGP speaking before the committee on Tuesday, September 12 said amidst all the issues, he rescued himself from the process.
“I moved on but said that whatever is going on, I recuse myself from the process. So I was not part of whatever decision to interdict or de-interdict anyone. It is the matter that was considered at the police council and they handled it in my absence.”
“And anytime this particular incident is discussed anywhere within the police leadership, they feel my absence because I think and believe that it is the right thing to do. And that is what happened, I am not involved in interdiction and DE interdiction of anyone.”
The IGP was responding to a question on his contribution to the letter interdicting the officers which was subsequently withdrawn.
