Maame Dokono, a seasoned actress from Ghana, has refuted reports that she dated Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, the late former president.
When Grace Omaboe, also known as Maame Dokono, gave a speech on July 30, 2024, at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra for the press premiere of her impending memoir, she addressed the rumors.
“By the Fireside” was the name of the news conference that was conducted to commemorate her 80th birthday and 60 years as an actress.
Maame Dokono denied rumors that she was the NDC founder’s girlfriend while she was at the ceremony.
“Some said they heard that I was the girlfriend of President Rawlings. Who is that person? Ah. I was never the girlfriend of President Rawlings,” she said in the video.

The seasoned actress also talked about how Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the late Rawlings’ wife, introduced her to politics for the first time.
Maame Dokono also described the challenges she encountered as a result of her active participation in politics.
The multiple award-winning actress claimed that she joined both the NDP and the NDC so that she could transfer sides in the event that one of them lost.
The mother of six defended her decision by stating that she did not want to endure pain. She did, however, restate that she had chosen to avoid politics because of the criticism she received.
In the meantime, the seasoned actress announced that, in honor of her six decades in show business, her much awaited memoir would be released on September 7, 2024.
