Ghanaian musician based in the United States of America, Yahaya Alhassan popularly referred to as Jay Baba has noted that as a young musician, he believes in the supremacy of the African culture.
In recent times, many musicians seemed to have adopted the foreign flavour in their music, neglecting the African culture and values. However, the Cape Coast musician, Jay Baba who is currently based in New York, in USA has mentioned that his believe in the supremacy of the African culture.
Jay Baba who was speaking with Barrister Daniels, host of the Entertainment Zone on ATL FM explained that because of his love for the African culture, he has always been involved in activities that promotes the African culture. He recalled that his career as a musician started with Cape Coast based cultural troupe, Agoro.

He also mentioned that while he was part of the Agoro performance troupe, he learned more about Africanism and the essence of the African culture hence even in his music videos, he would always promote the the rich Ghanaian culture.
“I started music at Agoro as a sound engineer, but I had the opportunity to continue my education in Nigeria where I worked with Nigerian musician, Duncan Mighty. I am a strong believer in the supremacy of the African culture and that is why in my African girl music video, I only exclusively demonstrated things that had to do with the African culture and these included our costumes and props” he stated speaking in his native Fanti.
He went to further add that his rise in the entertainment sector especially in the cultural aspect was because of the huge influence Agoro had on him growing up as a musician.

“I was influenced so much by the Agoro concept. People like Okyerema, Mr, Nyomi, John Zie and the rest had a profound influence on me so I decided to pay more attention to it. This has resulted in a new style for me, where I blend the African dance, beats and costume in my music shows and even videos” he recounted.
Jay Baba grew up at Ayekoo Ayekoo a suburb of Cape Coast in the Central Region.
