Members of the University Teachers Association, (UTAG) on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 voted overwhelmingly in favour of Industrial Action to support the Ban on Illegal Mining in Ghana.
The National Independent Electoral Committee (NIEC) announced that two thousand one hundred and fifty-three (2,153) members, representing 77.95% of the total votes, voted “YES” for the motion.
Meanwhile, six hundred and seven (607) members, representing 21.98% of the total votes, voted “NO”.
NIEC in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 9, therefore declared “the Motion, CARRIED.”
The referendum asked if the NEC of UTAG should “declare an INDUSTRIAL ACTION to support a nationwide ban on illegal mining activities.
