The Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Kwadwo Antwi Tabi says the spate of road accidents, especially on the Takoradi Cape Coast Highway has carved a bad name for the central region and thus ought to be changed.
According to him, one of his mission as the Central Regional Police Commander is to engage the various stakeholders to formulate policies that will help in reducing the spate of accidents on the roads.
He emphasized that “there shouldn’t be fatal accidents. There shouldn’t even be accidents at all and we have to sit down and form a task force to put in measures that will ensure safety on the roads”.
He said he will ensure that senior police officers together with officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTU) are stationed at vantage points on the highways to supervise drivers’ actions on the roads.
DCOP Antwi Tabi said this when he interacted with the media in the central region about his vision for the region.
According to him, the commercial vehicles that ply these roads are not racing vehicles and any vehicle found culpable would be sanctioned.
“We are not going to tolerate miscreants within the police service,” he said.
He added that “we coming to ensure security for the people of the central region, for visitors and anybody passing through the region because people’s safety also includes the safety and security of travelers on the road”.
He, therefore, urged the media to play their role in the continuous sensitization of road safety regulations to the public to help facilitate the police’s work in ensuring sanity on the roads.
He also urged them to bring to the attention of the police administration, the opinion of the people about the police’s discharge of professional duties of their mandate in ensuring the general safety and security of indigenes in the central region.
DCOP Antwi Tabi indicated that the police administration will also clamp down on criminal activities in the region to make it habitable for all and sundry.
