The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku has urged the youth of Cape Coast North to have an entrepreneurial mindset even as a new year has begun.
He said this is necessary because of government’s decision to freeze employment for civil servants effective January 2023.
The announcement on the employment freeze was made by the Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta while presenting the 2023 Budget and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ATL FM NEWS, Dr. Minta Nyarku lamented the freeze of employment in the public sector, which he believes will negatively impact the unemployed youth in the country.
“What is making me sad is government announcing that this year it will not employ anyone to work in the public sector. If government is freezing employment in the public sector for 2023 that means my youth in Cape Coast North will not get work to do in any government institutions. It is very sad,” he emphasized.
He, therefore, urged the youth especially those in Cape Coast North to consider learning a vocation so that from it, they can earn a living.
He also urged them to “endeavour to come up with something new or innovative or bring up ideas that can be churned into viable businesses.”
He said when they do these efforts will be made to see if funds can be raised to support the personal enterprises they establish.
Meanwhile, the Cape Coast North MP says there are two projects he plans to undertake in the constituency this year.
These include the commencement of Astroturf and the establishment of a food processing factory.
He believes when these projects start they can be a source of employment to the youth with expertise in these areas.
