Hart Credits Postecoglou
Joe Hart, the Premier League-winning goalkeeper, has praised Australian coach Ange Postecoglou and believes he has what it takes to end Tottenham Hotspur’s long trophy drought. Despite a career spent under iconic managers like Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini, Hart insists Postecoglou stands out as the best coach he has worked with.
Speaking on Optus Sport’s Takes from the Terrace, Hart reflected on his time at Celtic under Postecoglou’s leadership, describing it as transformative. “I’ve had some top managers, but I really enjoyed playing under Ange,” he said. “I absolutely loved what he brought to the game—his mentality, his philosophy. We connected at a different stage in my career, and it just worked.”

A Turning Point at Celtic
Hart’s career faced an uncertain future in 2021 after he was sidelined at Tottenham. The goalkeeper admitted he was on the verge of retiring until an unexpected conversation with Postecoglou offered him a lifeline. “At Spurs, I wasn’t even good enough to sit on the bench, according to the new manager,” Hart shared. “I was ready to walk away. I’d achieved a lot and thought, ‘No problem, I’ve had my fun.’”
However, a call from Postecoglou changed everything. Initially unfamiliar with the Australian coach’s work, Hart quickly became impressed. “From the moment I spoke to him, I loved his calmness, his understanding, and what he believed in. We didn’t just talk football—we connected as fathers, which made a huge difference to me.”
Postecoglou offered Hart a chance to contribute not only as a goalkeeper but as a veteran presence in the dressing room. “He was honest. He didn’t aim to be close with his players but was consistent and clear. We helped each other, and I’m forever grateful for that.”
A Successful Partnership
Under Postecoglou, Hart enjoyed a trophy-filled period at Celtic, with the manager winning five titles in two seasons. Hart credits the Aussie coach’s vision and leadership for reigniting his passion for the game.
Belief in Spurs’ Future
Now at Tottenham, Postecoglou faces the challenge of ending the club’s trophy drought. Hart is optimistic about his former manager’s potential. “Spurs is a top club, but when I was there, it didn’t feel like everyone was pulling in the same direction,” he said. “If everyone backs Ange—players, fans, and the organization—they have the tools to succeed.”
Hart urged patience and unity, saying, “Winning the first trophy isn’t easy, but with Ange at the helm, Tottenham has every chance.”
