Hakeem Addae, a miner with a Diploma in Environmental Health and Safety, has been elected as the Central Region’s representative to the Council of State after securing 18 out of 44 votes.
The election, held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, saw ten candidates vying for the prestigious advisory position.
Mr. Addae emerged victorious, defeating strong contenders such as Francis Ejaku Donkoh, Nana Obokomatta IX, Nana Okutsekupong V, Habib Mohammed, Seth Festus Appiah, Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, Hannah Cudjoe, Alexander Fiifi Ghartey, and Ogyeedom Nana Obranu Kwesi Atta VI.
Ahead of the Council of State elections, Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI announced his withdrawal from the race, citing personal reasons.
In an interview on ATL FM’s Mantew Mu Nsem, the Omanhen of the Mankessim Traditional Area explained that he decided to withdraw because a member of the Regional House of Chiefs would be chosen to represent the region, making his candidacy unnecessary.
Hakeem Addae’s victory means he will serve as the voice of the Central Region on the Council of State, an influential constitutional body that advises the President on national governance, policy direction, and regional development.
His election underscores the region’s commitment to democratic representation and selecting a leader with the vision and influence to contribute meaningfully to national decision-making.
Following his victory, Hakeem Addae assured the people of the Central Region of his commitment to working hard to fulfill their expectations.
In an interview, he emphasized that he is the best person for the job, promising to push for policies that address the region’s key needs and aspirations.
“I will ensure that the heart desires of the Central Region are met. This victory is not just for me but for every citizen who wants to see real development. I am fully prepared to advocate for our people and work closely with the government to bring progress to our region,” he stated.
Hakeem Addae, a seasoned miner with extensive experience in the extractive industry, holds a Diploma in Environmental Health and Safety, equipping him with the knowledge to address environmental concerns and promote sustainable development within his sector.
The Council of State is a constitutional advisory body established under Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. It consists of appointed and elected members who provide guidance to the President on governance matters.
Each region elects a representative, while others are appointed based on their expertise and experience in various fields.
