The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has raised concerns over road construction works causing damage to their water supply in Tamale.
The GWL plans to talk to the Engineering Council about this issue.
Meanwhile, the GWL Managing Director, Dr Clifford A. Braimah explained on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM that burst pipelines caused by road contractors working on big projects are leading to water shortages in Tamale.
He mentioned that they might have to start a program to manage water demand so people in Tamale can have access to water at least once a week.
Dr. Braimah also complained that contractors don’t move the water pipes even after being paid to do so before starting construction.
“They just start their work without relocating the supply lines, despite getting the extra money to do it”.
To deal with this issue, Dr. Braimah plans to talk to the Engineering Council to make sure this problem stops.
He wants to ensure that the water supply pipes are protected during road construction projects to avoid disruptions in water access for Tamale residents.
