Goodnews Emuemu, better known by his stage as Gnewzy, is a Nigerian singer who was abducted in Delta State.
The musician, who is signed to Eric Many Records, was reportedly kidnapped early on Monday, April 29, 2024, while returning from a performance.
The singer’s manager, Obas9ice, who was also in the car at the time of the incident, claims that several armed individuals wearing police uniforms harassed them on Eklat Road in the Ughelli area of the state.
It was reported that shortly after the singer was taken away, the kidnappers emailed the record label, demanding a $200,000 ransom.
Punch in Nigeria obtained a copy of the email, which begins, “Hey, Dilly. We are going to send out Gnewzy’s head if you don’t pay us $200,000 for your artist within the next seven days. In five days, we will give you the location details for drop-off. He will be killed if you mark the money or involve the police.
The record label’s project coordinator, Dayo Showemimo, issued a statement claiming that they were currently collaborating with law enforcement to settle the case.

“Immediately following the incident, Obas9ice has been cooperating fully with the Division A police station in Ughelli, providing his account and statement of the events.
“We are actively collaborating with law enforcement authorities to ensure the safe return of Gnewzy. We are in contact with high-ranking police officials, including the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe; and an Assistant Inspector General of Police in Lagos, Idowu Owohunwa.”
