Great Ampong squashes beef with Daddy Lumba

Ghanaian gospel musician Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, often known as Great Ampong, has stated that he no longer harbors any ill will against highlife artist Daddy Lumba.

Ampong had publicly criticized Lumba for ‘cheating’ in a collaborative project they worked on roughly seven years ago.

He informed Nhyira FM in an interview that he will not pursue his feud with Lumba after obtaining counsel from several people.

“Cheating is painful, but enough is enough. I have been advised by some chiefs and prestigious persons to let the matter slide. Everyone has tendencies of being a litigant but being able to let it go is what makes me a better Christian.

I have also worked for people and no one can come out and say I cheated them even though I had control of their songs as a writer. So if I don’t cheat them, I don’t expect anyone to cunningly cheat me. That’s my principle of life,” he said.

How the beef started

Great Ampong, a gospel artist, and Charles Kwadwo Fosu, a highlife legend, released a collaborative album named ‘Hosanna’ in 2015.

In a 2016 interview, Ampong revealed to Delay that it was Daddy Lumba who phoned him and suggested they collaborate on a music project.

“He called me on phone and said he was a fan of my works so he would like us to work on a project together. He invited me to his house and we had a discussion,” he noted.

The CD has eight (8) tracks, however Ampong says he wrote six of the ten. ‘Father and Son,’ ‘Hosanna,’ and ‘Jesus is a Winner’ are among the tracks on the album.

The project had a great reception but things did not go well for Ampong. According to him, following the album’s release, Lumba took the money they earned from the show home without giving him a pesewa.

Nonetheless, he claims he spent his money on the launch and expecting Lumba to reimburse him.

Another charge leveled against Lumba is that the highlife artist uploaded all of the tracks they made to digital music outlets using his personal accounts.

Ampong has often condemned Daddy Lumba’s behavior on many platforms, revealing how cruel the famed artist had been to him.

Lumba has never spoken on the situation in the aftermath.

Was Lumba’s song ‘Ofon’ a dig at Ampong?

When Lumba announced that he would release a song titled ‘Ofon N’adi Nsemfon’ (Twi expression translated as worthless people talk about worthless things), some speculated that it was a response to the owner of Joy Daddy Industries, who had previously claimed that Lumba took their money without fulfilling his part of a contract.

But, in a Happy FM interview with Nyansaboakwa, Ampong stated that Lumba’s song was written specifically for him and music producer Roland Acquah (RoRo).

He stated that in 2018, he learned that Lumba was planning to release a ‘diss’ song for him.

“A boy from his camp told me Lumba had gone to record a song for me and Roro. I caught wind of the song in 2017, 2018. So I was looking forward to hearing the song. And now that he has released it, he’ll hear from me. This is the beef of the year,” the gospel musician said.

The gospel musician stated that he will respond to Lumba with a song.

He then stated on Power FM that he had changed his mind and that the song he was planning to release was not a diss song to Lumba.

Regardless of the fact that the song ‘Nyame Akatua’ was released, many people have associated it with Lumba.

Ampong advised to go to court

Ampong had said in several interviews that when Daddy Lumba requested for the joint project; he did not ask for any agreement to be signed.

According to the gospel musician, he took Lumba for his elder brother, who would not take advantage of him in any manner.

Others had suggested that if Ampong did write six of the songs on the CD, he should sue Lumba.
