According to Senyo Hosi, a Finance and Policy Economic Analyst, a university degree does not guarantee employment.
Mr Hosi said that businesses are no longer simply interested in degree holders in an interview with Rev Erskine on Y107.9FM’s YLeaderboard Series on March 15, 2023. Instead, he stated that they seek individuals who have developed skills during their time at university.
Mr. Hosi underlined that acquiring these skills involves deliberate effort, and graduates must invest in them in order to be desirable to employers.
“As an employer, I am not interested in your degree,” Mr Hosi explained.
“I am looking for specific skills that you may have acquired during your studies. These skills are not always evident, and you must identify and develop them intentionally.”

Mr. Hosi also stated that those who did not attend university may still learn essential skills and prosper in the job market.
Mr. Hosi went on to say that it is an individual’s worth in the job that distinguishes them, not their educational background.
He emphasized the need of developing skills for graduates, particularly young people, who are looking for work.
Overall, Mr. Hosi advises university graduates to focus on improving their skills rather than depending solely on their degrees to get employment.
