Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Dr. John Kaku Mensah Mawutor has called on the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to consider introducing taxes for Ghanaians who conduct their businesses on virtual platforms.
He acknowledges the recent introduction of the e-levy taxes on transactions in the country saying that they are necessary to help boost the economy from the ruins of the Covid19 pandemic.
However, Dr. Mawutor says there are equally other avenues the GRA can venture into to generate more revenue for the country. He specifically mentions online businesses as possible avenues for the GRA to garner more taxes.
People are using their halls and their car boots to run businesses on the virtual platform. What GRA is to be doing now is to get creative means of taxing such people” he emphasized.
He observed that with most businesses now transitioned onto the virtual platforms, the government can make significant gains in taxing such businesses.
