Government Spokesperson for Governance and Security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah says no single government in the 4th republic has gone through challenges and recovered in the same government tenure.
To him, it’s never occurred in any gap where within an eight-year tenure a government would have a perfect beginning and begin to dip and rise.
Mr. Danquah expressed that the NPP government has been through COVID and the Russia-Ukraine war among others which have shaken the economy of Ghana but currently, the economy is on a trajectory of breakthrough and stability.
He said “We dipped during the Russian invasion of Ukraine and then we began to rise”
His comments follow President Nana Akuffo-Addo’s address at the 67th Independence Day celebrations, that the country is on the verge of a breakthrough in its economic fortunes.
Speaking in an interview on the Atlantic Wave, Mr. Boakye-Danquah reiterated that most governments have good beginnings but end in a dip however the current government is an exemption.
He described the recent independence anniversary celebrations as a source of pride for the people of Ghana.
Meanwhile, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah disagreed with saying that Ghana is not still independent after 67 years indicating that Ghana has its political and economic independence.
He explained that the nation no longer receives instructions from its former colonial master, the United Kingdom, and has moved towards self-reliance in managing economic affairs.
Mr. Danquah expressed pride in the country’s independence and economic autonomy, noting the pillars of the economy such as industrialization, district-based factories, digital advancements, and leveraging gold for stability in the oil and transportation sectors.
In addition, he mentioned that government is planning on having the Bank of Ghana purchase gold into our reserve.
“And I can say that I am very confident that there is no time in the future that the country will ever go to any of these Institutions for a bailout apart from what we are been given.”
