The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Isaac Asiamah has announced that government in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA); the National Sports Authority (NSA); Ghana Football Association (GFA); the Ghana Olympic Committee; and the Ministry of Youth and Sports is set to launch a stimulus package known as Youth in Elite Sports for Ghana.
According to him, sports in Ghana has had its fair share of economic damage as a result of the Covid19 pandemic and as such there is the need for a revamp in the sector.
“Under the circumstance, the government of Ghana had no option but to take a painful decision to suspend all sporting activities and this has brought untold hardships to sports men and women; team and club owners; and sports retail business men and women”, he said.

Mr. Asiamah stated that the package is to especially cushion Ghanaian athletes who were preparing for this year’s Olympic Games which has been cancelled due to the Covid19 pandemic.
“The pandemic has caused immeasurable damage to some Ghanaian athletes who were preparing for the Olympic Games which has been cancelled because of the Covid19 pandemic; and as a way to mitigate their plight, a stimulus package will soon be launched to provide the needed mitigation to abate the economic impact on their preparations”, he said.
On May 31, 2020, President Akufo-Addo in his 10th address to the nation on measures taken against the spread of Covid19 eased restrictions on sports activities stating that individual and contact sports can resume amidst appropriate social distancing and enhanced hygiene protocols.
