Government has duly launched the Ghana Smart Schools Project in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and the Centre for Distance Learning and Open Schooling.
The Ghana Smart School Project aims to boost senior high school education by providing teaching and learning management systems, digital learning content and the provision of electronic devices such as electronic tablets to all senior high and TVET schools in the country.
This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Education’s digitalisation strategy for pre-tertiary education and seeks to promote the government’s aim of leveraging technological advancements.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum indicated that as part of the smart schools’ projects, SHS school infrastructures will also be developed.
He said despite the current economic state of the country, the government will continue to build a robust education for the economy.
In his address, President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo underscored that the smart schools project is in fulfilment of improving urban and rural land use landmarks.
He added that this initiative aims at enhancing the free senior high school project by the government.
“The tablets are fitted with digital content to aid research, teaching and learning.” He said.
President Akufo-Addo therefore urged all Ghanaians to embrace the new initiative as it is a positive path to technological advancements and profitable investments in the future of Ghana’s education.
According to him, the educational tablets will be distributed to 1.3 million students SHSs with each student benefitting a tablet each under the Ghana Smart Schools Project.
Meanwhile, he said the government will provide tablets and laptops at a discounted price to students and lecturers to facilitate academic [activities].
