The government through the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund has budgeted US$100 million as its commencement fund for the Agenda 111 project which is set to commence on Tuesday 17th August 2021 and be completed within 12 months.
In addition, 88 sites have been obtained with their titles with each site large enough to accommodate the kind of facility that will be put on it.
The project will also see to the provision of two specialized psychiatric hospitals, with each one in the middle and northern belt. The Accra Psychiatric hospital will also be redeveloped.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Sunday, August 15, 2021, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah explained the challenges the government is faced with in acquiring the remaining lands; adding that despite these challenges work will proceed on the sites that have already been acquired.
“There are some Districts particularly in the Greater Accra Region where you cannot find 15 acres of land lying in the heart of some Districts. However, some parcels of land have been made available but you need to cross those stages and secure the parcels with their titles. You cannot also hold back the whole project because you are still in the process of completing access to land and to title.”
Mr. Nkrumah also disclosed that the project is budgeted at nearly US$17 million for each of the District Hospitals. He also revealed that the District and Specialized Hospitals are being funded by the government of Ghana however with the Regional Hospitals, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) arrangements have been made with their own funding associated with it.
In this regard, Government has called on all and sundry; especially the local beneficiary communities, traditional leaders, youth and all actors in the local health sector to support to the project for the benefit of the general populace.
President Akufo Addo will on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Trede in the Ashanti Region, observe the commencement of works related to the project.
