Residents of Goaso Traditional Area will have to tone down their Valentine’s Day celebrations this year, following a ban on public festivities by the Goaso Traditional Council.
The council’s decision, announced at a press conference, comes as the community prepares for the one-week observation of the late Paramount Chief, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah.
Elders, dressed in black, emphasized that traditional customs demand solemnity and respect during the mourning period.

While the council has not entirely prohibited Valentine’s Day, it has warned that public displays of celebrations, including decorations, parties, and open Valentine-themed activities, will not be allowed within the traditional area on February 14.
Mixed Reactions from Residents
The ban has sparked divided opinions among residents and on social media. Some believe it is a necessary cultural practice to honour the late chief, while others argue that the restrictions are too stringent, affecting businesses and personal celebrations.
For now, Goaso will observe a more subdued February 14, as the community prioritizes tradition and respect over the usual festive mood of Valentine’s Day.
