The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather alert for Tuesday, April 29, warning of moderate to heavy rainstorms and thunderstorms expected to sweep across several regions of the country, with particular focus on the coastal and middle belts.
The alert follows the emergence of an active rainstorm currently affecting the northern and transitional zones, with forecasts indicating a southward movement later in the day. GMet reports that areas including Greater Accra, Central, Western, and parts of the Volta Region may experience heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms from late morning into the early afternoon.
Key urban areas such as Accra, Kasoa, and Cape Coast face a 40% probability of thunderstorms, raising concerns about possible flooding in vulnerable communities.
Additionally, the Meteorological Agency is cautioning the public about moderate to strong winds likely to accompany the storm system. Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to safeguard lives and property.

“The state of the sea remains rough,” GMet added, urging fisherfolk and coastal dwellers to exercise extreme caution during the period.
This warning comes as the country transitions into the major rainy season, typically characterised by high precipitation and unstable atmospheric conditions. GMet says it will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as necessary.
