The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMeT) is urging residents living along the coast of Ghana to stay abreast with weather updates from GMeT and take necessary steps to safeguard their lives.
On Monday, May 20, GMeT issued a meteorological alert, with a forecast of a dangerous sea state expected to develop along the coast of Ghana on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, and Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
According to GMeT, the situation could pose threats to life and property, make navigation difficult among coastal vessels, increase the risk of accidents among swimmers and surfers, and cause coastal flooding and erosion.
The Agency therefore issued the following recommendations to coastal residents:
“1. Stay informed by monitoring weather updates from GMet.
2. Mariners are urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid operating vessels offshore or in rough seas.
3. Small craft should seek safe harbor until the dangerous sea state subsides.
4. Ensure all safety equipment is in proper working order.
GMet will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
Mariners are encouraged to monitor the latest marine weather forecasts.
