The Ghana Journalists Association has condemned the assault on EIB Network’s Murtala Inusah
Sympathisers of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako assaulted Murtala Inusah, who is the EIB network’s court correspondent for filming the proceedings with his phone.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the GJA, Kofi Yeboah, the association described the attack on the EIB journalist as “devilish”.
The statement called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest the assailants and the Judiciary to punish them severely as a deterrent to others.
The attack resulted in Inusah sustaining cuts on his fingers and experiencing severe bodily pain and his phone was stolen in the process.
Murtala Inusah has since reported the case at the Ministries Police Station.
The assault occurred during the arraignment of Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha at the Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in connection with the accident case at East Legon involving their 16-year-old son Elrad Amoako.
A police officer who went to the aid of the journalist, who is an accredited member of the Judicial Press Corps was also assaulted.
The GJA has urged media practitioners not to be intimidated by the act and continue to discharge their professional and constitutional mandate.
