Veteran Broadcaster, Gideon Aryeequaye has been named the Acting Executive Secretary of the Creative Arts Agency (CAA), taking over leadership from Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, who has headed the agency since its inception in 2020.

His appointment is widely regarded as a strategic decision aimed at advancing the Black Star Experience agenda, a key initiative designed to elevate Ghana’s Culture, Arts, and Tourism sector.

Aryeequaye brings extensive experience and expertise to his new role, having previously served as the Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) under the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama.

Gideon Aryeequaye is now Acting Executive Secretary, Creative Arts Agency

During his tenure, he played a significant role in shaping tourism policies and initiatives, making him well-positioned to lead the CAA in its next phase of growth and development.

The Creative Arts Agency serves as a governing institution responsible for providing the policy framework, development strategies, and regulatory oversight for Ghana’s creative arts industry.

The Executive Secretary of the Agency is appointed by the President of Ghana and is tasked with overseeing its day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with national policies, and reporting to the Agency’s Board as outlined in the Creative Industry Act (1048).

During her vetting by the Appointments Committee on January 22, 2025, the newly appointed Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, emphasized her commitment to conducting a comprehensive assessment of the Creative Arts Agency.

She underscored the importance of restructuring the Agency’s operations to ensure its goals align with the broader national strategy for tourism and the creative sector. According to her, the CAA was initially envisioned as a multi-purpose vehicle, rather than a standalone institution, and she is determined to clarify and enhance its role in driving economic growth through arts and culture.

Her planned review and restructuring efforts aim to optimize the agency’s impact, making it a key driver of Ghana’s creative economy and a catalyst for cultural tourism expansion.
