The Ghana Health Service has provided an update on the recent outbreak of Lassa Fever in the country.
A press release on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, indicates that 12 additional cases have been confirmed through contact tracing.
This brings the number of Lassa Fever cases to a total of 14 with 1 recorded death.
The release indicates that the 13 cases are alive and in stable condition so far and are being taken care of in designated health facilities.
The Ghana Health Service is therefore reminding the general public to avoid contact with rodents, contact with body fluids, and blood while taking care of the sick.
It also highlights the importance of ensuring environmental hygiene and the need to institute measures such as storing grain and other foodstuffs in rodent-proof containers, dropping of garbage far from the home, maintaining a clean household, and keeping cats to prevent rodent infestation.
