The Government of Guinea-Bissau has praised Ghana for its leading role in the independence struggle on the African Continent.
According to the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaru Sissoco Embalo, Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s exceptional leadership gave hope to many countries on the African Continent to build their confidence to gain independence for their respective countries.
He, therefore, said the Guinea Bissau country and its people “are grateful to Ghana for the solidarity and support during the country’s struggle for liberation”.
To him, Nkrumah’s legacy is still valid for the whole of Africa and his legacy will continue to live on.
Umaru Sissoco Embalo gave this praise to Ghana during the 66th Independence Day Parade held on March 6 in the Volta Region.
He noted that Guinea Bissau cherishes the long-standing relationship it has with Ghana and is hopeful that the two countries will continue to work together for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
President Umaru Sissoco Embalo who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was praised for his participation in the 66th Independence Day Celebration.
President Akufo-Addo in his address at the event was happy and proud of the strong ties of cooperation and friendship that exist between our two countries,
“I am also happy that President Embaló succeeded me as Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. It is my hope that our two nations will continue to work together to build a sustainable future of progress and prosperity for our respective countries and populations, and to maintain healthy relations between our two nations:” he said.
The 66th Independence Day Celebration which was held at Adaklu Tsrefe, near Ho in the Volta Region on March 6 was on the theme Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”
In attendance were 64 officers, 1,042 men from the various security agencies, contingents from seven senior high schools and basic schools in the Ho municipality and Adaklu District, about 5,000 people from different parts of the country with the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, who is the Chairman of ECOWAS as the special guest among other dignitaries.
