Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority, Kwame Prempeh says the Ghana Electronic Procurement System is helping to address certain challenges with public procurement in the country.
The Ghana Electronic Procurement System (GHANEPS) was launched by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2019, making Ghana the first country in the West African sub-region to establish an electronic procurement system for the public sector.
Two years after the launch of GHANEPS, Mr. Prempeh said the system is living up to its expectation especially with regard to ensuring transparency in public procurement.
“The Ghana Procurement Electronic system was introduced a few years back and definitely is to address the challenges that we have within the procurement space and we have started implementing it. There is about 242 entities who on board the system and we see some improvements” he said.

He however noted that the private sector also plays a vital role in procurement in the country adding that they provide intellectual inputs through their services to ensure the continual function of government.
“So need them to be part of the process so that they can continue to provide these services because without the private sector, government cannot continue to function” he emphasized.
Mr. Prempeh has thus urged interested private individuals to also get on board the electronic procurement system.
