Ghana’s COVID-19 case count has increased to 15,472 as 460 new cases have been recorded in the country since the last update on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.
The new cases according to the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye were recorded in 34 districts within nine regions of the country.
These he said include: “293 new cases from 16 districts in the Greater Accra with most of them from institutions, 45 from Eastern Region in 4 districts, Western recorded 44 new cases from 4 districts, Ashanti 42, Northern 18, Bono East had 12 cases and then the remaining regions; Oti, Western North and Bono recorded less than five cases in one district.”

He added that out of the 15,472 cases, “9,146 have come from enhanced contact tracing. For now, we are looking at risk screening among others that is also part of the institutional data we are getting and some of the testing of contacts. 6,327 have also come from general surveillance that is for those who present symptoms which suggest that they may be positive”.
Speaking at a press briefing organised by the Information Ministry on Thursday Dr. Aboagye revealed that 11,433 persons have recovered and are home or at their workplaces. “Currently, we have about 22 people who are severe, six are critical, and 95 deaths. So the total active cases stand at 3947,” he added.
On his part, Minister for Information, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah indicated that the ministers of state who issued statements yesterday confirming that they have been detained at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on precautionary bases, have run some tests including COVID-19 and are awaiting results. He added that “They will do well to share the outcome of the tests with the people of Ghana.”
