The Bureau of Public Safety has urged the public to be alert in the face of an increase in the number of missing persons in the country.
According to the organization, the protection measures placed in place by vulnerable people’s immediate family can stop them from being victims.
The number of people registered missing in various parts of the country in recent years has piqued the public’s interest.
Kids, middle-aged people, and the elderly are among those who have gone missing.
In some instances, the abducted people have been recovered alive and well, while in others, they have died as a result of what seems to be manhandling by alleged kidnappers.
In an interview with Citi News, Nana Yaw Akwada, Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Safety, urged police to expedite inquiries into such incidents.
He mentioned that families would exercise caution about how they approach the case in order to prevent jeopardizing the police investigation.

“The phenomenon of missing persons appears to be an emerging threat among the vulnerable population, especially the aged and the children. In most cases, there is the need to contact family and friends first as most studies in recent times have shown that a lot of the cases of missing persons actually turn out to be willful absences. So relatives of missing persons must contact the police as soon as possible, engage the community as well and be advised that if you have to use the media don’t hesitate to do it,” he said.
