A Land-User Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Engineer Surveyor, Dr. Ebenezer Ankomah Gyamera says if the government can effectively manage its land resources, it will not go seeking assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He emphasizes that Ghana has abundant land resources, and if managed properly, they could be used to boost the country’s economy.
To him, government should be committed to ensuring that the country’s land resources are used constructively with the advice of professional surveyors.
He notes that the 1992 constitution is very clear and the Lands Commission must educate this country very well about land issues.
“When we’re able to manage our land very well, there will be no need to go to IMF because land is money. And we will enjoy very well” he continued.
Speaking on the ATLANTIC WAVE, he stated that if government can effectively manage its land resources, it can create jobs, increase its agricultural output, and attract foreign investors into the country.
On the issue of land surveying, he was emphatic that Ghanaians must seek the services of professional surveyors when acquiring land or building properties.
He said in doing so, potential landowners would wean themselves from fraudulent activities.
“When you meet a surveyor, ask him or her whether he’s a member of the Ghana Association of Surveyors. Because every surveyor should be a member. If he’s not a surveyor, why do you have to worry yourself engaging him or her at all? Other than that, you can also Google and find out people who are surveyors fit to o your work for you” he said.
Dr. Ankomah, therefore, called on the government to prioritize educating Ghanaians on land acquisition processes to prevent fraudulent land deals and disputes.
