The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has announced a series of events to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Day Anniversary, with activities scheduled from February 28 to March 6, 2025.
A statement released on Sunday, February 23, 2025 revealed the celebration will begin with the Commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, February 28, 2025.
This event will honor the sacrifices of three ex-servicemen who were shot while protesting for their rightful benefits.
As part of the celebrations, a nationwide school quiz competition final will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, followed by the final round of a nationwide debate competition on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the President’s School Children Awards Programme will recognize outstanding students across the country.
The celebrations will conclude on Thursday, March 6, 2025, with a grand ceremonial parade at the Forecourt of the Presidency.
To engage the public ahead of the February 28 wreath-laying ceremony, the Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC will roll out an educational campaign across television, radio, and social media.
This initiative aims to rekindle public interest in the event while educating Ghanaians on the historical significance of the 1948 shooting.
The campaign will include the sharing of historical content related to the incident and an interactive X-Space discussion on the evolving nature of civil protests in Ghana.
Additionally, media outlets are encouraged to promote conversations surrounding the anniversary theme to deepen public engagement.
The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at Nationalism Park at 8 a.m. on February 28, 2025, and will be broadcast live on multiple platforms.
The NCPC has urged the media, bloggers, and the general public to actively participate by sharing information and engaging with the activities to foster national.
