Ghana Health Service says the nation expects to receive a total of 18,742,610 doses of Covid-19 vaccine for the last three months of the year.
Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director-General of Ghana Health Service, stated that, the doses comprise of 834,720 AstraZeneca, 1,330,290 Pfizer and 16,577,600 Johnson and Johnson vaccines.
Apart from COVAX, AstraZeneca and Pfizer, which were donated by industrialized countries, he stated that the whole consignment of Johnson & Johnson was purchased by the government through the African Union platform.
According to him, if the consignment arrives in its whole as anticipated, a total of 16,777,100 individuals will get vaccinated before the end of the year.
Dr. Kuma-Aboagye expressed confidence that his outfit will be able to vaccinate at least 20 million people against the Covid-19 illness by the end of 2021.
“It is very important to get vaccinated and so when you get the opportunity please take advantage of it; it does not matter the type of vaccination, they all give the same results.” He admonished the general public during a news conference on Sunday.

The Director-General further stated that, despite a delay in the country’s immunization campaign owing to a worldwide scarcity of vaccinations, his organization remained optimistic about attaining herd immunity within three months.
He noted that, there is a general decline of the covid 19 cases including decline in the cases of admission and decline in the number of international travelers to country to who tested positive.
He was however quick to add that the decline in cases will provide government the opportunity to speed up vaccinations to ensure majority of the populace are protected against any future surge in infections.
