The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced that the Ghanaian Embassy in Washington DC will officially resume operations on Thursday, May 29, 2025, following a temporary closure triggered by administrative restructuring and staff recalls.
The reopening follows the suspension of all home-based and local staff last week, a move the Ministry described as necessary to pave the way for reforms aimed at enhancing accountability and service delivery at the mission.
In a statement released on Tuesday, May 27, the Ministry confirmed that a new team of seasoned diplomats has been deployed from Accra to assume full operational control of the Embassy. The delegation is being led by a senior Ministry official tasked with reorganising the Embassy’s internal systems and implementing sweeping administrative changes.
“In addition, an Information Technology (IT) team is currently onsite to revamp the Embassy’s digital infrastructure, particularly its website and payment platforms,” the statement said.

The Ministry noted that the goal is to eliminate all unauthorised and unofficial payment links, streamline service processes, and ensure the Embassy’s digital platforms are transparent and secure for users.
The suspension of operations and staff changes stemmed from internal challenges that have since been reported to the Auditor-General and Attorney-General. The Ministry indicated that the situation could lead to sanctions, although it did not disclose the specific nature of potential disciplinary actions.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to address the backlog of consular requests and restore public confidence in the mission’s operations.

In the interim, the Ministry has urged the public to use official communication channels for enquiries:
