The Government of Ghana has reiterated its commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare system through strategic partnerships, particularly with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI).
Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, disclosed this at the 2nd China–West Africa Medical and Health Industry Expo and AI Diagnosis and Project Cooperation Summit held in Accra.
The summit brought together major healthcare stakeholders including the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, LEKMA Hospital, Hunanza Top Medical Limited, and the Ghana Standards Authority.
Mr. Debrah stressed government’s resolve to address existing challenges in healthcare delivery while supporting the Health Community of West Africa Association in its quest to advance hospitals, healthcare facilities, and medical institutions with modern technology, sustainable systems, and cutting-edge equipment.
“With AI, diseases can be detected earlier, diagnoses made more accurate, and treatment delivered more effectively. For rural and underserved communities, this technology can be truly transformative. It bridges the gap between urban hospitals and rural clinics, ensuring that no life is neglected because of geography,” he emphasized.
Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Caroline Reindorf, also underscored the importance of leveraging AI to enhance healthcare delivery.
“For us at the Ghana Health Service, this platform is more than an educational exercise. It is a call to action to strengthen systems, integrate modern medical technologies, and deepen South–South collaboration between Africa and China,” she said.
Prince Opoku Dogbe, an organizer of the Expo, explained that the initiative seeks to position Ghana as a hub for medical technology in West Africa.
“Our goal is to support hospitals in Ghana with AI-based medical imaging, treatment solutions, and supply chain systems, thereby bridging gaps in healthcare delivery,” he noted.
Some exhibitors highlighted the relevance of the event, noting its role in educating clients on accurate and reliable medical solutions while creating opportunities for partnerships across the sub-region.
The Expo ultimately aimed to foster growth in the health sector through collaboration between local and international stakeholders.
