Ghana has not requested that Chad’s membership in the African Union (AU) be revoked.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Ministry’s attention was drawn to a social media publication attributed to an international radio station that “Ghana is seeking the suspension of Chad from the African Union (AU) owing to military coup d’état.”
According to the statement, the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration wishes to state clearly that the Government of Ghana has rendered no such pronouncement on the political situation in Chad.”
“To that end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration would like to take this opportunity to encourage all players in the media space to be cautious in publishing materials that are detrimental to friendly relations between sisterly African countries.”
