Ghana’s men’s and women’s 4×100m relay teams have excelled at the ongoing African Athletics Seniors Championships in Douala, clinching gold and silver medals, respectively.
The men’s team, consisting of Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, Edwin Gadayi, and Abdul Rasheed Saminu, clinched the gold medal by finishing ahead of Nigeria. The quartet clocked in at 38.63 seconds, while their close competitors, Nigeria, completed the race in 38.84 seconds.
This event marked the fourth encounter between Ghana and Nigeria in the relays. Their first face-off occurred at the African Games in Accra, where Nigeria claimed the gold and Ghana took silver. A rematch ensued at the Bahamas World Athletics Relays, where Ghana emerged victorious, earning a spot in the Paris Olympics. In Douala, the teams met again during the heats, with Ghana winning, and they repeated this success in the final.
On the women’s side, the team led by Hor Halutie, alongside Mary Boakye, Deborah Acheampong, and Anita Afrifa, secured the silver medal, finishing just behind Nigeria.
Team Ghana completed the race in 43.62 seconds, whereas Nigeria clinched the victory with a time of 43.01 seconds.
