Ghana has carved a historic niche on the continent by becoming the first African nation to enter a formal Security and Defence Partnership with the European Union.
Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang welcomed the EU’s High Representative, Kaja Kallas, on her official visit to the country to finalize the deal.
The Ghana–European Union Security and Defence Partnership joins Ghana with global peers such as the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada and Norway in a strategic alliance against regional instability.

As part of the engagement, the EU handed over critical security equipment, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) vehicles, counter-UAV systems, motorcycles, and drones, aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of Ghana’s security services.
The Vice President noted the urgency of the deal, citing the recent tragic loss of Ghanaian traders in Burkina Faso as a reminder that peace is the foundation for all development.

The official visit of Her Excellency Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, marks a significant step in deepening the longstanding partnership between Ghana and the European Union.
