The Ghana Armed Forces has issued a statement confirming that an identified Z9 helicopter en route to Obuase has gone missing after taking off from Accra this morning August 6, 2025 at 09:12hrs.
The official statement released by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra indicated that the helicopter had eight people on board- three crew members and five passengers – at the time of departure.
“All efforts are being made to establish contact,” the statement added.
Earlier reports revealed that a military helicopter had crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, with unconfirmed reports indicating that some passengers on board may have perished.
Eye witnesses say the helicopter was flying at low level and caught fire immediately after the crash.
The presidency is expected to address the press soon.
